Breaking Cover by Kaje Harper *****

Breaking Cover (Life Lessons, #2)Breaking Cover by Kaje Harper

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Oh how I loved this book - perhaps even more than the first one. D'you know how hard it is for romances to keep being exciting after the first book? Once they've got past the angst and troubles in the first book to finally get together, the HEA is what we want, but let's face it it can be a bit boring! Not in the this book. The relationship had real troubles, real problems - the kind where being in love is sometimes not enough by itself.
Mac coming out at Tony's hearing nearly made my heart stop. But the thing that got me in this book was the differing degrees of difficulty facing gay people. How much of an issue it is - when it REALLY, REALLY shouldn't be. I mean I know it isn't easy I read the news articles, I hear of people's experiences, but this book, without being overly dramatic, really brought the message home. I cried for Mac and by extension for everyone who has had to suffer small mindedness.
I love this couple, I love how Kaje Harper writes crime story lines, the detective storyline for Mac was fresh and exciting, it linked in fabulously with Tony and Mac and didn't feel contrived. I just love these books. So I'm going to end my review because I am wasting time, when I could be starting the next book in the series!
